About YAMAYA FACTORY
Our thoughts
Socks are innerwear that come into direct contact with the skin, but they also have a fashion aspect as they are visible from the outside.
To fulfill both roles at a high level, high-quality materials are essential in addition to manufacturing technology and design capabilities.
However, just like cooking, using the highest quality ingredients doesn't necessarily mean you'll create a delicious dish.
Lastly, I think the most important thing is the maker's feelings about the socks.
About the Business
We manufacture socks using a variety of knitting machines in Nara Prefecture, Japan's largest sock production area, which has its roots in the textile industry dating back to the Edo period. By making the most of the natural blessings of cotton, linen, wool, and more, we create socks that are comfortable to wear according to the season. Our main business is OEM (sock manufacturing for domestic and international brands) and the manufacture and sale of our own brands (yahae, ORGANIC GARDEN).
The story of socks
We believe that socks are like the crystallization of human wisdom, woven together with threads, soft to the touch, warmth, and artistic imagination. Regardless of how they are knitted, whether by hand or machine, the socks are imbued with the skill and creativity of the artisan. Sock production, which utilizes sophisticated knitting machines, may seem industrial at first glance, but in fact it involves the hands of many people. Although our socks are machine knitted rather than hand knitted, we make them with the same feeling as we would when we hand knit a scarf for a loved one.
Currently, the number of sock factories is steadily decreasing for various reasons, but with respect for tradition and passion for socks, we are taking on new challenges to preserve this industry for the future.
story of the future
We have been making socks for over 100 years in Koryo-cho, Japan's number one sock production area, and we are aware that we are still in the middle of our pursuit of the ideal socks. Based on the accumulated "history" of the past, we also value a perspective toward the "future" for sustainable manufacturing. We would like to create socks that the world truly needs.
